Attitash Ski & Snowboard School FAQ's

1. What do I need to wear?

You will need to wear warm, water resistant, or water proof clothing. It is best to dress in layers, so you can add or remove clothing as your day goes on. Wear only one pair of socks. Avoid cotton socks. They hold moisture and get cold when wet. A good wicking Synthetic or wool sock is ideal

2. What will I be learning?

We will cover all of the basics needed to successfully navigate some of our green circle terrain. Your coach will show you how to get in and out of your skis. You will learn how to move around on flat terrain, and how to climb up gentle slopes, and how to get up if you should fall down. The coach will show you the movements needed to travel down a hill and to make your first turns and how to stop.

3. You mentioned falling is that going to happen?

Like any sport that you try for the first time you may fall down. Itís very similar to when you learned to ride your bicycle. You probably fell a few times but it was still fun. We all still fall from time to time while skiing, even the best of us. Itís really no big deal.

4. How long does the lesson last?

The lesson is a 3 hour experience. We do our best to get you through the rental shop within a half hour. You go directly on snow and begin learning what you need to be successful. Your coach may do some of the exercises inside while waiting to get your skis fit to you.

5. How hard is it to learn to ski or ride?

Both of the sports are unique, while they share some similarities the learning process is a little different. Our coaches are trained using PSIA/AASI training methods. PSIA/ASSI are the national training and certification organizations for skiing and snowboarding in the US. We will work very hard to help you make your first turns with in the span of your first lesson. We have helped many people enjoy skiing and riding for the first time

6. Should I rent equipment?

The learn to package includes rental equipment for the days that you are skiing with us. If you are doing a single day program you can return your rentals at the end of the day. If you opted for our 3 day learn to package you can keep your skis/board and boots over night.

7. My neighbor has equipment, can I just use his/hers?

We strongly recommend that you use the equipment that is supplied by Attitash. This equipment will be fit to you personally and set up according to your height, weight, boot sole length, age, and ability level. The equipment supplied is also designed with the new skier/rider in mind to provide them with the best learning experience possible.
