Mountain biking is a backcountry experience complete with all the hazards and challenges associated with being removed from civilization. The mountainous terrain contains risks too numerous to list but include the steepness and unevenness of the riding surface which contains rocks, bumps, water bars, ruts, stumps, brush, racing gates, finish-line equipment, and mountain vehicles operating on the roads and trails. It is up to each rider to be responsible for his/her well-being and to become familiar with the information in the Mountain Biker's Responsibility Code.
